by Kaushik on January 17, 2012

What is call divert? In your phone’s settings menu there is a call settings sub menu wherein this call divert feature can be found. Its a process to divert or re-route or send an incoming call to another mobile or landline phone. This may be required under certain circumstances when phone is switched off or is unreachable in the cellphone network or unanswered.

Its mostly a handset dependent feature which means you can easily activate or deactivate this feature from your mobile phone without having to send request via operator’s customer care. Call Divert feature is free to activate/deactivate. BUT, when the actual divert happens, it is not free. Why? In a call divert, your phone makes an outgoing call to another phone and it will be charged as per your tariff plan.

Due to financial implications, use call divert only when you require it urgently. Avoid lengthy leisure chats during call divert active period.

How to activate call divert

In your phone, go to Settings menu. Find the Call Settings sub menu and open it. You will find three options: Activate, is the first option. Note: If you’re using a 3G handset then you’ll see a menu for Voice Calls and Video Calls. If you open Voice Calls, you’ll again get five options: All voice calls, If busy, If not answered, If out of reach, If not available. Here you can choose All Voice Calls for unconditional divert – if you can’t receive any calls; or else, choose from the other conditions.

Next, your phone will ask for the other number where you want to divert. Remember, you will need to specify that number in international format. For users in India :-

1) Divert to a landline:  +91 STD Code without zero landline number
(Example: +91 11 xxxx xxxx for a number in Delhi)

2) Divert to mobile:  +91 ten-digit mobile number
(Example: +91 xxxxx xxxxx for a mobile number)

How to deactivate call divert

In your phone, go to Settings menu. Find the Call Settings sub menu and open it. You will find three options: Cancel, is the second option. You may even choose to Check Status. As soon as you press cancel, the active call divert will be ended.
