Many people have reported that they are receiving missed calls from some unknown international numbers; when they call back they are charged a huge sum for the call. Telecom giant Vodafone informed that people in UP & Tamil Nadu have received these unsolicited calls on their mobile phones. Ignore the calls, says Vodafone.
Vodafone is said to be investigating in to the matter and has also asked its 140+ million subscribers in the country to ignore such calls. Or else, you may be surprised with a huge charge if you call back. So if the number is unknown to you, never call back.
In case your mobile rings due to such a call, call the customer care and report the number to them. Assure yourself about security it should be your highest priority. I suspect that some scammers have setup a premium call-in system (like those in international phone chat offers) and that’s squeezing out money out of your pocket because the call-in rate has been somehow set to very high amount.
Its not that only Vodafone customers maybe affected! Customers of other operators can also be affected, so be careful and spread the word of alaarm.
