Just after 6:45 pm this Sunday, this site faced a down time, it continued for 31 hours, 26 minutes and 16 seconds. Shocked to know this? Well, this server normally doesn’t have any down time, except in 2 or 3 months. But when it happens, its for a day or more! When the site was back, I had to decide for a complete redesign and restarting the whole site contents again.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have a current backup. The site admins had a backup but it was quite a few weeks old one. In fact, a previous site was replaced with the current one which was here. Its my fault, I blame nobody, I depended a little too much on this server. Anyway, I’ll keep backups whenever something new is posted in the site.
Meanwhile, those of you who have self-hosted websites, do you keep daily backups? Make a habit, or else valuable data maybe lost because web every hosting service provider do not take daily backups, many of them keep weekly backups which will return you with a far past website and not a current one. So it is better to take your own precaution than to repent later.
My site has over 30 thousand pages indexed in Google and right now about 3 thousand links are inactive/dead. Visitors will be seeing the 404 Error page, I am sorry for that!
